Warm Leatherette: Thursday 23rd September at Madame Jojo's
Another first-class live lineup of iconic Eighties bands from the creators of Electrogogo!
Frankie D, famous as the curator and resident DJ of Madame Jojo's classic Electrogogo as well as many other long-running cult Electro nights, returns with his acclaimed new live music night Warm Leatherette, featuring a host of Post-Punk and Electro bands and DJs. Tonight’s lineup is headed up by Post-Punk legends Department S, plus a midnight set from the great Eighties New Wave outfit Blue Zoo. With strong support from neo-Punk young guns Electric River and Nessus Red, Warm Leatherette is a hot ticket!
Tonight’s live band lineup:
Department S
Originally a punk/ska combo, Guns for Hire, they featured former Madness drummer John Hasler. After one single, they became Department S in 1980, taking their name from the 1960s TV series. In their short life (1980-1982), Department S had enormous success with their first single ‘Is Vic There?’ Its original recording was produced by Mott The Hoople members Dale Griffin and Pete Overend Watts but it was re-issued in 1981 due to its continuing popularity.
In 2007, Department S recorded their first new single for 26 years, a cover version of Alvin Stardust's 1973 hit ‘My Coo-Ca-Choo’. It included a guest appearance by Mark Bedford of Madness on bass guitar. A re-recording of ‘Is Vic There?’ was made as well as several new tracks, which included contributions from a prestigious lineup including Glen Matlock, Marco Pirroni, and John Keeble of Spandau Ballet. Their first live comeback gig was played in February 2010 at London’s 100 Club to great acclaim.
The band will play a classic set including the iconic ‘Is Vic There?’ ‘Going Left Right’ and ‘I Want’.

“Dark, brooding electronica with a strong love of black and red colour schemes and Gary Numan, is how Nessus Red's jib is cut. Definitely one to go to if you were missing Depeche Mode recently” - Spoonfed.
